The Honeywell Lyric Smart Thermostat is a stylish Wi-Fi thermostat monitored and controlled by an Android or iOS smartphone app. The Thermostat utilizes a smart phone’s location service, known as geofencing, to save energy. While a web app or heating and cooling usage reports would have been a nice addition along with conventional scheduling to heat your home, it is very easy to configure, well designed, and very colorful.

The Full Honeywell Lyric Review

This smart thermostat measures 1.3 inches in depth and 3.7 inches in diameter. Its stylish look is the touch-sensitive shiny chrome and glass cover that will go well with any décor.

The Lyric has a round LCD in the center that is 1.4 inches in diameter and displays the current temperature. If you press the cloud icon on the left of the LCD, it changes to a 12-hour display of the weather forecast along with the expected temperature, time, and expected humidity levels. Clicking the home icon button launches an away menu that allows you to inform the Lyric when you will be out and how many hours you will be gone for up to 24 hours. This will also reset the heating and cooling temperature to a specified away setting. At the top, there is a small motion sensor that will wake the Lyric when you are approaching, otherwise, it will conserve energy by staying dimly lit.

There is a small display above the main one that shows the temperature setting and a snowflake icon for cooling or a sun icon for heating, which you can press to turn the system on and off.

There is a halo ring that will briefly glow blue if the thermostat is in cooling mode. Orange, if it is in heating mode, and green if it enters the energy-saving mode. You can manually raise or lower the temperature with a turn of the dial. It is also accompanied by an audible tick that makes it easy to adjust the temperature to exactly what you want.

Although you can’t control the Lyric from a web browser on your PC, you can control it from your smartphone using an Android or iOS app. The colors displayed on the mobile app make it easier to configure your smart thermostat to fit in with your schedule.

When you first launch the mobile app, you will see a screen with a dial that you can use to change the temperature. It will display an orangish color in heating mode and blue for cooling. Instead of the Lyric providing a general scheduling procedure, you can set home or away temperatures. You can also create shortcuts and triggers to tell your thermostat what you want it to do. For example, if you want the heat to be raised or lowered at a specific time of the day. It also allows you to create shortcut buttons that will reside on your home screen for future use. All of these buttons are located on the left of the dial on the main screen.

To adjust the screen brightness, the home and away temperature, or enable the adaptive recovery and fine-tune features, just tap the setting wheel located in the upper right corner.

The Fine Tune function uses indoor conditions, local weather information, and factors other things in, like the temperature outdoors and humidity to ensure your house is heated and cooled properly.

With the Adaptive Recovery function that the Honeywell Prestige IAQ thermostat also contains, your heating or cooling can be set to start early for your house to be the temperature you want at the scheduled time.

The Lyric’s geofencing feature is a jewel in its crown that uses the location of your smartphone to trigger your thermostat automatically depending on your location in relation to your house. For example, when you exit the geofencing perimeter, you can program the Lyric to switch to the away mode or when you enter the perimeter, you can set it to switch to the home mode.

There are four geofencing perimeters to choose from that include a quarter-mile, two, four, or seven miles. With geofencing, there’s no need to turn the heat or air off and you will always come back to a comfortable house. One thing the Lyric lacks is a power usage report as well as other alert options provided by other systems. However, it does provide a Smart Cue function that reminds you when it’s time to change the filters and also when someone enters or leaves the geofencing perimeter.

In addition, the Message center keeps records of activities, such as, when the thermostat doesn’t respond, loses its Wi-Fi signal and is offline, or loses power.
