Design and Display

All of the Nest products have appealing designs with premium finishes including the E Thermostat; although, it isn’t as glossy as the third-generation Learning Thermostat, which is also more expensive too. Thus, it doesn’t have many finish options available either, but it’s still one good-looking device.

While the Learning Thermostat has a stainless steel, circular shell with different options, such as, copper, the Nest Thermostat E has a white circular shell that’s very soft to touch similar to the Nest Cam Indoor IQ. It also turns in both directions so that users can change the temperature without using the Nest app and scroll through the different features and options.

Since the default settings of the Nest Thermostat E may be too low for most people, you can choose a temperature default during the setup process through the app. You can also change this after setup, on the E Thermostat itself.

Nest Thermostat E Performance

The Thermostat E learns the temperatures you use when you are home and how your home is heated up, and will also turn itself down while you’re away. The Nest Thermostat E comes with a pre-set schedule, based on the majority of Thermostat 3.0’s user data preferences. You can change the default schedule according to your own preferences and the device will automatically adapt itself to your life within a week of use, as it learns from your routine.

It also rewards you by displaying a green leaf when you save energy by changing the temperature and learns how to better assist you to save energy based on your preferences. For example, if you usually set the temperature at 64 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius) during the night and then drop it slightly, you will get a green leaf. You will also receive a monthly home report showing how much energy you use that includes an energy history section within the app called daily breakdowns.

Precise Temperatures

In addition, the Nest Thermostat E provides a True Radiant feature to achieve the precise temperature you want, wherever the thermostat is placed, as it understands how long it takes for your home to heat up and also knows when the boiler should be turned off so it doesn’t get too hot in your home.

This E Thermostat also includes a safety temperature feature that alerts you when it gets too hot or cold in your home and standard smart heating features that allow you to control the temperature of your home remotely from the Nest app. Another great feature is a Home/Away feature you can use to switch to ECO Mode when nobody is home. This feature also allows you to ensure the heating will not go off on someone in the house who is not on your Nest account, like visitors staying with you from out of town, or a babysitter.
